ADOPT A DOG
If you are looking for a dog, please call between 11am
and 4pm
for directions or an appointment to
visit
our shelter in El Centenario: 044 612
155 8948.
Some of our dogs have homes waiting for them in Canada
and the U.S. but we need people to accompany them on the airplane. If
you are going north and would like to help, please ask
us how!
As we use our donations for medicine, food and shelter,
we
have recently introduced adoption fees. This fee is waived for members,
Padrinos, volunteers, workers and contributors. All dogs adopted out
through Baja Dogs La Paz, A.C. are up to date on their vaccinations.
Dogs over 6 months of age are all spayed or neutered.
Before you bring a dog
to the refuge, please read our intake policy.

Pumba was
found outside Maggie's office at the university. Obviously
he had just been dumped because he looked confused and followed
the kids around. Nobody wanted him and kept chasing him away. He had
only 3 options, either die under the wheels of a bus, get killed
by the
largest dogs there or starve to death. He looks so healthy and he
is so sweet. He's part dachshund (wiener dog), short-legged and will
remain small. He's a few month old.

Yuki is a 3 month old healthy,
friendly female puppy found on the highway with Lyla who was probably
her mom. (Lyla was found skin over bones, with many cuts and sores and
a
wire tied tightly around her neck. Unfortunately she did not survive
her injuries.) When we put Lyla in the truck this
dear little black pup jumped in. If you are looking for a cute pup come
out and see this little one!

Katy is a
small chow looking dog. She had 5 puppies in an empty lot on one of the
busiest streets of La Paz. Unfortunately, 4 of her puppies had been
killed by cars on the street and we only managed to save Kiki. She's
very sweet and quiet, and while she's still a little nervous, enjoys
sitting in your lap.

|
Kiki is a three month old puppy that
was born in the street. He's a very quiet and timid puppy,
and that's probably what kept him alive. He was the only one to survive
from a litter of 5, the rest died in the street. We had a hard
time catching him as he hid under a car in a mechanic shop. When we
finally got him, he was terrified and wouldn't move. He had a funny
motor oil mark on his forehead. He'll be a healthy, fun and
smart puppy once he gets used to people and being cared for. |

Megan just had a gorgeous litter of
pups so can't be adopted for a month (approx. Feb 22). She is
about 1 and a half years old and a healthy, medium sized dog. She
lived on the streets of El Comitan and fared well until she had her
babies, when travelling around searching for food became more difficult
for her. She is now happily ensconced at the refugio where
she is waited on hand and foot ...er, paw!

|
|

|
Unitas is already a favorite as she
looks like our much loved Bebe who now resides in Campbell River
BC. This little one is gentle and quiet. We feel she will be a
small / medium dog. She will be ready to go in about 2 weeks (approx.
Feb 7)

|
Banana is a medium size young adult.
She was found outside tec's gate. She was standing by her owner's house
for 2 weeks unaware the family had moved out and left her behind. She
lost a lot of weight but is now gaining it back. She'll be a great
family pet. She used to live with a chihuahua, so she must be good with
pets and children. She has a quiet and calm personality.

Sammy (a.k.a. Bart) was found
starving at a
local gas station. He had been trying to scrounge for food when a
big dog came along and took the food away. This may explain the
badly infected gashes to the poor little guy's head. He is in the
refugio and healing nicely. He has a sweet personality and will be a
gorgeous looking fellow in a month or so. He is small/medium
and has a wiry coat.

|
Mike is a medium-large sized dark
brown and tan, smooth coated lab cross. Possibly a lost dog as he has a
very nice nature and is very friendly to other dogs and people. Male,
approximately 2 years old. He's an energetic boy who will need
lots of exercise.
|
|
|
|
|
Tango was
found with Frosty, after being dumped in Comitan. Tango (male) is about
4 months old.
|
|
|

|
Tyson is
a favorite of many
of the volunteers at the refuge. He came in in a weakened state and
still isn't
strong. He needs lots of good food and vitamins before he can be
adopted. He is a little timid and we would
love for
some volunteers to come in and hold him, talk to him, just plain old
"show
him some love".

|
We
have lots of pups to
choose from. It is hard to tell what breed these may be or if they will
be big
or small. Pictured are Fala, Fila and
Nana. After a few weeks with us
and
getting some good chow they will be ready to go to loving homes.

|
|

|
Mixie
is a lovely gal and
one heck of a strong dog! This lab cross will make a great watchdog and
pet but
she will need a yard to play in. A real beauty, she is almost certainly
a lost
pet. Clean, friendly, confident, and fun. She’s also an amazing jumper
–
Frisbee, anyone? |
|
|

|
Tarzan
is a large young
adult male dog who still needs some TLC and a few more good meals. He
is
friendly and quiet, walks well on a leash, and loves people. He was
brought to
us with Athena. |
|
|
|
|
Athena
is a medium sized
girl, possibly with lab in her. She is
skin and bones and will be spayed as soon as she puts on some weight.
She is
very sweet and gentle and quite timid. She and Tarzan were going to be
killed
because they were digging holes in a resort golf course.
|
|
|

|
Rod
is a feisty little guy with
roti in him. He is about 10 weeks old
and will make a good pet for the right person. As
you can see from the picture, he is a
playful rascal who is searching for the perfect home.

|
Guero has been around the block a
few times, bless his heart! Medium size, male, short hair (now that it
has grown back - he arrived without any), light cream color, which is
how we arrived at his name. Battered and scarred ears and face, this
guy has had a tough time out there. But he's very friendly. Hopefully
someone will make his life better from now on! |
|
|
 |
Lulu is a 5 month old pup, lovely
copper
brown color, with a sweet disposition. She had some mange and
was dehydrated and malnourished when found wandering in El Centenario.
She will probably remain a small to medium sized dog - very cute.
|
|
|

|
Bolly is a tough little street dog.
She and her
little brother were brought to the refuge by a kind stranger as tiny,
unweened pups. Someone had thrown them in the street in front of his
house. At only a couple of weeks old, without their mother, they would
not have survived long. Luckily we had a nursing dog at the
refuge - our dear Torombola was feeding her own pups, and she also
took on these two tiny orphans. Sadly, the male pup was not strong
enough to overcome his first two terrible weeks, but Bolly
started suckling right away, taking that chance at life. She's now
a strong, healthy little 5 month old.
|
|
Muneca is a big friendly girl,
approximately 2-1/2 years
old. Please contact Penny
directly for more
information about adopting Muneca.
|
|
|

|
Patty is a
spunky dog who was found with her sister.
She is full of energy and very happy. She has had all of her shots and
will be
a very good watchdog.
|
|
|

|
Angela
is a beautiful medium size female,
about 2 years old. She is very quiet and would be a great
pet. Angela came to us after a group of people
in her neighborhood tried to kill her with sticks and knives. Unfortunately, many of our dogs have been
in similar situations, if not worse. |
|
|
 |
Henry was
dumped over the fence with his brothers when they were very young
pups. A Doberman cross, Henry will be a medium sized dog . He is
very playful and likes to be around people. |
|
|
|
Kiwi is a beautiful dog with a long
sad history. His mom Bella passed away from abuse. When Bella and her
pups arrived at the refuge, we promised her that we would find loving
homes for all her babes and we thought we had. The man who adopted Kiwi
gave him away which is against our rules. Kiwi was severely abused in
this second home. He will need a loving patient family or woman to help
him continue to build trust. |
